FUNDING CRITERIA
The Rehabilitation Institute Foundation seeks to fund programs/projects that will positively impact and/or enable persons with disabilities and their families to develop competencies and skills enabling them to live richer, more productive lives in the community.
*Please note that the foundation is currently utilizing an invitation only funding request process. *
We consider grant applications from organizations that:

Are determined as charitable under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code

Provide programs and services for children and adults with disabilities. The area of service should be within Johnson and Wyandotte Counties in Kansas, and Jackson, Clay, Platte and Cass Counties in Missouri

Have a minimum of 5 years of successful operation in the community
Applications should:

Describe an explicit, identifiable need
-
Complement the mission of the RIF
-
Enable innovative, evidence-based improvements in the organization
-
Demonstrate the ability to provide the necessary services or manage a project using sound administrative and fiscal management practices
Activities that typically will not receive funding:

Organizations that discriminate on the basis of race, ethnicity, creed, religious affiliation, disability, gender or national origin

Grants for individuals
-
Deficit financing and debt retirement
-
Endowments
-
Political organizations, candidates or campaigns
-
Lobbying
-
Advertising or special fundraising events/celebration functions
-
General operating support
-
Capital campaigns
-
Replacing discontinued funding from government entities
Reporting expectations for grantees:
-
You will be asked to sign a Grant Award letter acknowledging receipt of funds and acceptance of grant requirements

Depending on the use of the awarded funds, you will be asked to provide either a one-time or quarterly written report to the chair of the Grant Committee discussing progress made, the status of outcomes/benchmarks and the use of funding.

Awardees may be asked to meet with the board upon completion of the funded project to share their experience and results.
